West Sussex County Council (WSCC) is prioritising public realm improvements to Chichester City Centre. The existing public realm within the pedestrianised zones of East and North Streets is deteriorating and the current surface has reached the end of its useful life.

WSCC have engaged with key local stakeholders, most notably Chichester District Council (CDC), CDC’s Heritage Officer, Chichester City Council, Chichester Business District and Chichester Cathedral, who all support the recommended designs. As a result, in October, WSCC published a Key Decision (opens in a new tab)approving funds to undertake preliminary and detailed designs to improve North and East Street. From 4-29th November 2024, WSCC held a period of public consultation where the public were invited to submit their views on the concept designs and influence the future of Chichester City Centre.

Please take a look at the artistic impressions on this main page and the design proposals in the 'Concept Designs' widget on the right hand side of your screen. It is important to note that all the proposals are early concept designs and are subject to change as a result of the survey and feedback received. The 'Frequently Asked Questions' also has information you may find useful.
