What do you look for from an employer survey - the results!
We Asked:
We designed a survey which ran from between 16th September to 31st December 2024 to find out what people of different demographics looked for from an employer. We were particularly interested in any differences between those aged 16-25 and those aged 26 and above.
You said:
We received 263 responses in total. 39 were from those aged 16-25 years.
For those aged 16-25, most found employment through Indeed, followed by social media and word of mouth. This age group listed money (51.7%), flexible/hybrid working (34.5%), learning and development (24.1%) and then work/life balance (20.7%) were listed as the top four most attractive aspects of employment. 16-25’s listed having a caring and supportive environment, which was creative and collaborative as well as diverse and inclusive as their ideal organisational culture.
Those aged 26 and over tended to seek employment through Indeed, word of mouth, a company website and then social media. Work life balance (36.5%), making a difference (33.2%) money (30.8%) and then flexible/hybrid working (27.9%) were listed as the top four most attractive aspects of employment.
Both age groups listed having a caring and supportive environment which was collaborative as well as diverse and inclusive as being ideal, although those aged 16-25 added having a creative culture to their list. Perceptions of West Sussex County Council as an employer were largely positive.

We are using the feedback from this survey to help shape the messaging we use to promote West Sussex County Council as an employer of choice, including the jobs, careers, opportunities, and benefits we offer.
