Continuing active travel routes between Burgess Hill Station, Town Centre, the Green Circle and key destinations.

In 2020 Mid Sussex District Council and West Sussex County Council held a public engagement for the Burgess Hill Place and Connectivity Programme, which included proposals for active travel improvements through the Victoria Business Park.

West Sussex County Council are now prioritising the development and delivery of these improvements and wish to inform the local community of the current proposals, provide the opportunity for engagement and feedback that can shape the final designs and ensure key stakeholders are recognised and can be kept updated on project progress..

Proposal: The proposed scheme is focused on delivering a safe and accessible set of improvements for walking, cycling and public transport users, reducing the reliance on vehicle transport with the business park by improving the access and connectivity and providing safe links to the wider pedestrian and cycle network.

Indicative Programme:

  • Public and Stakeholder Engagement and reporting October - December 2026
  • Detailed Design - 2026
  • Build - 2027

From Friday 24th October 2025, West Sussex County Council is holding a period of public engagement where you will have a chance to submit your views on the current designs and influence the future of active travel in Burgess Hill.

  • The Victoria Business Park is identified as a priority for improvement to support the aspiration of the Townwide Strategy and Neighbourhood Plan to improve walking and cycling links because it is the major employment area in Burgess Hill and therefore a key location for trip generation. The proposals have been developed to create better links within the business park itself and to / from adjacent areas and to enhance links to existing and proposed cycle facilities including the Western Gateway, Burgess Hill Town Centre and the ‘Green Circle’ route running roughly parallel to the A273.

West Sussex County Council are carrying out a public engagement on the preliminary designs and feedback will be used by the design team to influence the detailed design stage and ultimately a decision on the final scheme.

    Launch Friday 24th October 2025
