Have you seen our Operation Watershed page?
Following flooding in the county during 2012/13, West Sussex County Council (WSCC) resolved to address issues with the drainage infrastructure including:
- the riparian ditch network
- damage to roads
- improving resilience to protect homes, businesses and highways.
The response was the creation of ‘Operation Watershed’, within which the Active Communities Fund was launched.
Since the establishment of Operation Watershed, WSCC has successfully supported local communities by funding over 400 projects to a value in excess of £4m, and worked with nearly 150 groups.
Operation Watershed now has a further £400,000 via the Active Communities Fund 2024/25 to support community groups interested in delivering capital projects to reduce the risk and impacts of flooding in their area.

Weeds can damage paved surfaces, displace kerbstones and crack walls, making maintenance difficult and costly. If weeds grow in road gullies and channels they can slow down and, at worst, block the drainage systems. They can also trap litter and debris.
We spray weeds on roads and pavements twice a year between April to the end of May and between July and September. The timing depends on weather conditions and weed growth and it takes around six weeks to spray roads across the county. Some roads will be treated at the end of the programme and therefore, could have more weed growth by the time they are sprayed.
Please understand that the control programme is intended for guideline purposes only. Weather, operational requirements/changes, weed cover on the ground, mechanical/equipment failure, sickness, absence, or decisions taken by the company will all play a part in potential deviation from this intended programme.
The weed control programme can be found here: Weed control programme (westsussex.gov.uk)

ONE.network is a platform designed to enable road users to view real-time information on roadworks, closures and diversion routes.
From the West Sussex County Council home page you can navigate to ONE.network by clicking the 'Roads and Travel' tab, from there select 'Roadworks and projects' and lastly 'Roadworks map'. There will then be a green button, that when pressed, takes you to ONE.network.
