What is the West Sussex Public Chargepoint Network?

West Sussex County Council, Adur District Council, Worthing Borough Council, Arun District Council, Crawley Borough Council, Horsham District Council, Chichester District Council and Mid Sussex District Council have signed a contract with Connected Kerb, one of the country’s leading providers of electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions. The contract will see chargepoints installed across the county at zero cost to the councils.

The UK will ban the sale of new diesel and petrol cars starting in 2030. From 2035, new hybrid cars will no longer be sold, all new cars and vans must be completely zero-emission.

Between January and August 2026, 355,746 fully electric cars were registered in the UK which represents a market share of 25.6%. In August 2026 28,063 new electric cars were registered.This represents 29.8% of all new car registrations. This highlights the importance of having a reliable public charging network that serves the community including those residents who do not have access to off-street parking.

The public charging network across West Sussex already has over 1000 sockets installed. The next phase of activity will involve installing further active chargepoints alongside underground infrastructure. This will allow us to future-proof our network by easily installing more chargepoints to meet increasing demand as more people move towards electric vehicles in the coming years.

We’re NOT proposing to change any of the parking arrangements at the moment, so other cars WILL still be able to park as before, although we hope people will be considerate & allow EV drivers to charge. Any future change to parking restrictions would go through the normal consultation process.
