West Sussex County Council are working with a number of health, care and voluntary sector organisations to carry out a needs assessment for LGBT+ children and young people in the county. We want to understand your experiences of mental health and emotional wellbeing and accessing support locally. This will help us improve local services.
We want to hear from you if you live or study in the county of West Sussex, are 25 and under, and are lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans or exploring your sexual orientation and/or gender identity (LGBT+).
We want to hear from a diverse range of community members. This could include communities such as those who are LGBT+ and with disabilities and/or neurodivergence, community members who are Black and/or People of Colour, Gypsy and Traveller communities, and those with a variation in sex characteristics.
This page includes links to support services which you can access for free and confidential advice around mental health, wellbeing, gender identity and sexual orientation.
Below is a survey which you can fill out to help us understand your view and experiences. The survey closes at midnight on Sunday 18th June 2023.
This work will be published later in 2023 on the West Sussex Public Health website (www.jsna.westsussex.gov.uk)

This survey is designed to capture the views and experiences of children and young people in West Sussex who identify as LGBT+ around their mental health and emotional wellbeing, with the aim of improving support services for young people.
It should take no more than 15 minutes to complete. These questions ask you about issues which positively or negatively affect your wellbeing. Thinking about these can sometimes be challenging. If you find a question upsetting, leave it blank, and remember support services are available and are listed on the main project page. You can withdraw at any point during the survey and do not have to submit your responses.
By taking part, you will be giving consent for your responses to be used anonymously. We won’t ask for your name during the survey and any identifiable information will be removed. Responses will be stored on secure databases for no more than two years and then deleted.
