What is the West Sussex Youth Voice Network (YVN)?
‘Youth Voice creates spaces and empowers young people to talk and speak up about what they want to see happen and changed across West Sussex. Youth Voice is a place where young people know that they have been noticed, heard and that their opinions are valued’
Group Objectives
To work together to increase Youth Voice in West Sussex.
To ensure that a collaborative approach is taken across different key services to address and overcome obstacles of capturing Youth Voice.
To deliver training sessions to young people on subjects they confirm are needed and wanted to help enrich their lives.
To act as a support and challenge to each other to achieve ambitious results with Youth Voice.
Sharing good practice and learn from each other.
To spread the word of opportunities for young people to have their voices heard and activities available to all young people in West Sussex.
To collectively fund events and training (initial funding coming from WSCC). This can be to help find appropriate funding sources.
To ensure that this work fits in with a wider improvement plan for the Children’s First Board run by West Sussex County Council.
To work with decision makers on subjects that affect the lives of young people in West Sussex.
To help shape change in West Sussex in relation to young people’s views and opinions
Inclusive age range – 5-25 years old – The group may be split into younger and older groups to help facilitate communication and also for events. This will be decided at the time of work being carried out.
This group is designed to help empower the voice of Children and Young People in West Sussex.
The group is owned and run by the West Sussex County Council Voice and Participation Team but is made up of like minded young people and adults who want to support and encourage all young people in West Sussex to have a voice.
The group has an agreed Terms of Reference that members follow and agree to on sign up and can be read here.
The YVN will run regular events for Children and Young People and being a member of this group gives you first access to these sessions. As a member you will also be able to help plan and run these sessions.
