Your feedback about buses
Having recently spent some time in Cornwall using their buses, adults pay £5 for a day pass to travel anywhere in Cornwall and you can use any operators services. Cornwall council reviewed their bus services recently, drastically dropping the day pass rate from around £9 so £5 makes bus travel an attractive option again while still providing frequent and reliable services, also if you buy 5 days worth of travel there it's just £20 (£4 a day!). Please could WSCC consider this idea? As I believe it is currently well over £9 for a day pass in West Sussex which also restricts you to only Stagecoach services. We would hope to have a later Bus service ( 50) at Graylingwell Park, Chichester this currently ends around 6pm. So not encouraging anyone to use either the events at Graylingwell Chapel or use the many restaurants in Chichester city Centre. People simply can't get back up here or Summersdale.
We have no bus stopping at Amberley, even though one drives very close by. We have a community run bus but it doesn't run every day or to all the places. Please can't you reinstate an Amberley stop?
Bus services in the rural parts of West Sussex are a joke. There need to be regular and reliable bus services through all the villages. The service through Amberley was so limited that it was barely used and now does not exist. If you want us to reduce car use and use public transport then there needs to be reliable and affordable public transport to use. The alternative in villages like Amberley and Slindon is to have community buses with volunteer drivers.
There are no buses serving Colgate, nr Horsham. I have 3 kids that desperately need a bus service to Horsham for college, social activities & to train station etc. no wonder there’s so much traffic on the road and especially through the village on Forest Road
The practice of changing drivers at the bus stop in South Street, Chichester is causing delays to all services because while the handover is taking place no other buses can take on passengers at the stop. Some drivers expect passengers to walk past the handover bus to board the following bus while other drivers refuse to take on passengers until the bus stop is vacant. This causes confusion for the waiting passengers. Recently a blind person became very upset when she couldn’t establish where to board her bus. Why can’t handovers be carried out at the bus station which is only a few hundred metres away?
The 55 route between Tangmere and Chichester is extremely unreliable. Buses are cancelled without warning and it’s not uncommon to wait for up to an hour for what is supposed to be a 20 minute service between Monday to Friday. The digital signs at bus stops also relay inaccurate information which makes using the service extremely frustrating. Considering that this service takes passengers to and from St Richards hospital the 55 service should be given priority when decisions are made to cancel buses when there is a shortage of drivers available.
The 700 bus goes round Wick every 10 minutes send 1 round Wick bye pass every 20 minutes between Morrisons and Tesco to the station and the town.
I think the buses in Worthing are much more expensive than other parts of the country I’ve lived in. I really think a move towards a single ticket or Oyster card system would be a massive benefit to the town

700 coastlines advertises Wi-Fi not working since pandemic rediculous
We use the 700 service a lot and find it very reliable
The council would like more people to use buses and i agree this would be a good thing , but if will not happen unless you reduce the fares . Buses are only used by school children and pensioners with free bus passes . My wife and I are in our early 60s we would like to use the bus more often but from Goring by sea to Worthing pier is £5.60 return each on the 700 bus . So we will use the car instead and just wait 4 more years for our bus passes. Surely the answer is simply to reduce fares and more people will use the buses , I’ve read the West Sussex bus plan and it’s a frankly useless
My local bus is the 51 bus Horsham bus station to Collingwood Road. There are only three buses a day and the last one back from town is about one o clock. The bus is not well used because of the timetable. We feel we are being discriminated against, being mostly elderly we are unable to go not town in the afternoon either for shopping or to go to the doctors.I used to go to Worthing with my friend on the bus but cannot go any more because I can only get back to the bus station there are no buse to Collingwood Road. When I complained I was told to use the community buses just feel it’s not fair Roffey have buses every half an hour .
Since life has been returning to normal post-Covid, my locakl bus service has got worse and very unreleable.
I use the Stagecoach 700 bus to travel socailly and travel to and from Work in Brighton, a service which is advertised as one bus every 12 minutes (and every 20mins on a Sunday. However, many times the bus has either been so late, or not turned up at all, that I have been late for work in the NHS. Recently, I was threatened with dismissal as a result, even though I make up the time at the end of the day.
Then after work, I often manage to catch the 700 leaving Brighton before 4.20pm. However, if I miss that busm often I wait 45 minutes or more and the passenger number build up. Stagecoach might also put on a single-decker bus at this instead of a much-needed double-decker.
I also experience this at weekends and, on occasions, have missed appointments as a consequence.
I appreciate that traffic volume and roadworks along the coast road hold up bus travel (and this will only get worse as more properties are built, but I have also heard that drivers have left.
We are getting to the stage that West Sussex need to take some form of action to help Stagecoach buses run a more efficient service that COULD be as good as advertised and is a very popular form of travel for social, appointment and employment purposes.
The Brighton to Horsham bus No.17 needs to be restored to a half-hourly service, to provide better connections with rail services, and to offer some form of contingency for when there is a cancellation, due to breakdown or other incident on this lengthy journey.
Please keep them going and regularly . They are important to so many.
The up-to-date message information boards are great.
I think the bus services are great - two wishes - bring back the Compass bus from Worthing to Arundel, and return the Nr 7 Salvington bus to hourly as it was before the pandemic.
I think it is time for Chichester to have a park and ride system so that we can reduce the amount of traffic within the city and built up populated area.
There is a great opportunity to do this now on the site at the old oil depot just off the main Bognor road. A much smaller town like Horsham has managed it well, so why not Chichester.
There are still few or no reliable regular bus services from the rural parts of the NW Sussex area (eg: Billingshurst/Loxwood/Rudgwick/Kirdford/Northchapel/Petworth, etc) to key centres of facilities (eg Hosrsham, Chichester or Worthing). Unavoidable trips to St Richard's Hospital or essential appointments with commercial/medical/professional service providers -predominantly sited in the Sussex coastal or Mid-Sussex zones- present a major difficulty to attend. Taxi fares are exorbitant and unaffordable and community and shopper buses too erratic and infrequent and there is no easy direct rail link. With an increased elderly or otherwise non-driving population (incl statistically more of our younger residents) this is of major concern.
