Introduction
As part of the West Sussex County Council’s commitment to building stronger, safer and more resilient communities, we are working closely with our partners and key stakeholders across West Sussex to conduct some analysis around the safety, concerns and associated risk in and around six of the main train stations on the west coastline.
Following on from detailed analysis, it is evident that children and young people within the county perceive train stations as unsafe locations, along with adults who experience or witness specific types of criminal activity or fear or crime whilst using the rail network.
We have produced two surveys, one to for commuters/staff and the other for local businesses to establish the thematic behaviours, perception of any raised issues and suggestions for achievable change. We will consider ideas for short term fixes and longer-term solutions in conjunction with partners, to make these places and spaces safer.
Both surveys can be completed in less than five minutes and aim to:
Gather insight from those working close to train stations.
Identify trends in behaviour, age groups and frequency of behaviour experienced by businesses.
Understand contextual risk and develop sustainable solutions to make spaces safer.
Thank you for taking the time to complete one of these two surveys, the results will help us to prioritise issues raised and consider how future spending and targeted work within each district and borough can help to reduce risk within these areas.
