Overview
The Big Fix is a repair campaign introduced by Recycle Devon to counteract throwaway culture. The Big Fix started in 2019 and encouraged residents to make use of their local repair cafe. In 2024 the campaign saw a total of 163 repair cafes getting involved and successfully fixing 3,177broken items across the UK.
Here in West Sussex, we want to support reuse and repair as much as we can. With West Sussex’s amazing network of volunteer run repair cafes we’re in good hands.
What is a repair cafe?
A repair cafe is a free meeting place where people can bring things to be repaired by volunteers in their local community. This can include things such as:
clothes
furniture
electricals
bikes
clocks
lights
ceramics
toys.
There are over 2,000 repair cafes worldwide, with the majority found in Europe. Their aims are often to waste less, share skills and create a more sustainable society. West Sussex is home to over 20 repair cafes. For a full list and their contact information please visit our Community Climate Action Map (opens in new window).
