What age range of children and young people would be be accessing the Satellite provision at Arun house, what would their needs be and what curriculum would be offered?

    If the proposal is taken forward, Arun house would provide SEND provision for pupils whose main area of need is severe learning difficulties from Y9 onwards. There would also be 10 places available for a Post 19 cohort, but these will not be available for several years.

    The satellite site would provide these learners with a bespoke holistic curriculum that develops learners' skills in the following areas:

    • Cognitive development
    • Transition/ Community
    • Physical and mental wellbeing
    • Life skills
    • Enterprise/ vocational
    • PSHE/ Citizenship 

    Learners would be in classes of approximately 10 pupils.  

    How would the two school sites be linked?

    Arun House is located less than 2 miles from the main Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee School, with an approximate driving time of 6 minutes, depending on the time of day.

    If the proposal is agreed, then Arun House would be purposely refurbished to accommodate learners with severe learning difficulties, whilst facilitating access to the whole school community. Where learners need to access the main school site, this would be timetabled into their school day.

    The schools mini buses would be shared across both sites and would be used to transport learners between the sites. 

    As Arun house would be a satellite site, school leadership would remain the same as the main school site. The school's staffing team would expand. Staff will be based at Arun House and where appropriate they will transfer between sites accompanying pupils so they can access school events and therapy provision. Both sites will have oversight form the school's senior leadership team. 

    Core systems will be be based at the main school site. 

    What specialist facilities would there be at Arun House and would my child be able to access their therapy provision there?

    Learners would be able to access most of their therapy on site at Arun House. Arun House site would have the following in addition to classroom spaces:

    • Hygiene facilities
    • Small group rooms
    • A meeting space for MDTs
    • A life skills room and kitchen
    • Quiet room
    • Medical room

    Learners would have access to Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy and Nursing/Care at Arun House. The school would make arrangements for access to therapies at the main school site where appropriate. 

    Hydrotherapy would be accessed at the main school site. Swimming lessons would be accessed at The Pavilions in the Park, a public leisure centre that is located very close to the Arun House. Both would be timetabled into a learners day and transport arranged by the school. 

    Hoist and hygiene facilities would be available at Arun House to ensure that all learners would have access to the appropriate spaces that they need. Hoist and hygiene facilities would remain in place at the main school site. 

    Appropriate technology would be available to meet learners sensory and communication and interaction needs.     

    The rebound room, immersive room and drama studio will remain on the main school site. Learners will be able to access these alongside their peers. This would be timetabled into a learners day and transport arranged by the school.   

     

    What resources would Arun House have for life skills, enterprise, transition and community engagement?

    Arun House would have a life skills classroom with kitchen. The school would explore how enterprise could work across life skills and the curriculum.

    All students would be able to access the community. The site is close to local amenities such as a The Pavilions, Town centre and Horsham Park, which are all approximately 5-10 minutes walk away. 

    What outdoor space would there be at Arun House?

    Arun House would have an outdoor area that can be accessed and used by all pupils.  

    How would places at the satellite site be allocated?

    Consultations for a place at Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee School would continue to go through the West Sussex admissions process. Staff at the school would decide if a placement was to be offered.  

    What travel and parking arrangements will there be at Arun House?

    There would be up to 15 parking spaces at Arun House, with an additional 2 disabled parking spaces and space for 1 minibus. 

    There would be one access point for all vehicles. 

    There would be a bike shelter, the train station is approximately 5 minutes walking distance. Arun House is on a main bus route with a bus stop located outside the neighbouring law courts building.  

    Would my child/young person receive transport to Arun House?

    Arun House would be a recognised satellite site for Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee School. Should your child/young person be eligible for transport to their school placement, and they are attending Arun House, then this would be their drop off and collection point.

    Would there be an increase in traffic in the vicinity of Arun house during school drop off and pick up times?

    There may be an increase in traffic during school drop off and pick up times. WSCC would endeavour to minimise any potential impact on the local community in relation to this.
