Overview

PREVENT is part of the government’s counter-terrorism strategy, CONTEST, to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism.

Surveys on community perceptions of Prevent have been carried in other parts of the country, and West Sussex would see the benefit of undertaking similar exploration. It is for this reason that the Countering Extremism Team (CET), West Sussex County Council (WSCC) has developed a survey aimed at engaging with communities, particularly minoritised communities. The survey is aimed at developing an understanding of how this agenda is received and perceived by the community, information of which will be used to improve on development of training, engagement and share of awareness raising information

It is envisaged that outcomes and learning from the survey responses will help improve the teams as they develop engagement plans, training, information and awareness raising programmes. It is also hoped that this exercise provides a baseline for future and much more larger surveys or research work in West Sussex.
