Measuring the impact of libraries - volunteering
Help to demonstrate the value of public libraries!
We know that libraries provide many benefits and deliver real positive outcomes for older people and for mental health.
Libraries Connected South East have commissioned research to demonstrate the financial value of the social benefits of library services.
We are focusing on three areas of activity that libraries offer across West Sussex:
- Knitting and other craft sessions
- Volunteering
- Social groups and activities (such as board games sessions and reading groups)
National research shows that for everyone who volunteers, we can place an estimated value of between £158 to £2,476 per person per year depending on the regularity of their volunteering and whether it is their main volunteering commitment.
We are asking you let us know how often you perform your volunteer role at the library, whether it’s weekly, monthly or any other schedule. Your information will be collected via a paper or electronic form and will be securely destroyed or deleted once we have shared the volunteer numbers, without personal details with Libraries Connected and Shared Intelligence.
By taking part in our data collection, you’ll contribute to a growing evidence base that can shape funding decisions and strengthen the case for well-resourced public libraries.
All personal data that is collected for this research will only be used for tracking purposes and will not be shared with any external organisations.
We do not need you to send back any personal data to Libraries Connected or Shared Intelligence and no individuals will be identified in any published reports.
