Improving your journey in the Durrington area

We are consulting on proposals to help make bus journeys faster and more reliable, reduce congestion and provide safer crossings in the Durrington area. The proposals aim to enable healthier lifestyles with better access to schools, local shops and Durrington-on-Sea railway station. We encourage anyone with an interest in the area to tell us what they think by completing our survey (opens in new window) which should take 5-10 minutes to complete.

Please see our Route Maps (opens in new window) overview plans for more information about the scheme. A scheme summary description (opens in new window) is also available. The proposed improvements include:

  • Improved pedestrian crossings to make walking safer and more convenient

  • Bus lanes that cyclists can also use on The Boulevard to reduce bus delays and make cycling safer

  • Junction improvements to reduce congestion and improve road safety

In 2024, we consulted on a range of transport improvements between Durrington and Goring (opens in new window). We have carefully reviewed the feedback and used it to develop new proposals for the Durrington area to improve journeys by public transport, walking and cycling, and by car. You can read a consultation summary (opens in new window) or view the full consultation report (opens in new window). We are now seeking your views on our latest proposals.

Our survey is also available at the bottom of this webpage. The consultation is open until 11:55pm on Monday 30th November 2026.Artists impression showing zebra crossing north of Terringes Avenue/Palatine Road roundabout with pedestrians, southbound left lane bus lane with bus finishing ahead of zebra crossing, an on road cyclist, pedestrians on adjacent footway, and cars in right hand lane.

What changes are required to achieve these benefits?

To ensure that buses can use the bus lanes to avoid congestion, on-street parking will need to be restricted along parts of The Boulevard, with the exception of the area outside the Strand Parade shops.

We recognise that these changes will affect some people who park along The Boulevard and would like to understand views on this matter as part of the consultation. Adjacent roads are understood to have sufficient capacity to accommodate the number of vehicles that typically park on-street in the area. Some people may need to walk further to get to their destination if they are currently parking or dropping off on The Boulevard.

  • Thursday 12th November: Worthing Indoor Bowls Club, 1 Field Place, The Boulevard, Worthing, BN13 1NP, from 3pm to 7pm
