What is the West Sussex Youth Cabinet?

The Youth Cabinet is made up of 48 young people, aged 11-18 from across the county. Our goal is to give young people in West Sussex a voice to effect change and make a difference to their local communities.

What do the Youth Cabinet do?

Youth Cabinet meetings happen monthly around the county (and you get your travel refunded!)

The work we do helps us gain an insight into the constituents concerns and the spending of government money on young people’s local social action projects which make a difference or highlight an issue of concern for young people.

In Youth Cabinet you will learn a huge variety of skills, including film making, radio shows, running anti-radicalisation campaigns, creating projects with ‘hard-to-reach’ groups, working with professionals and decision makers and lots lots more.

Find out more on our Youth Cabinet and UK Youth Parliament website (opens in new window)

How do I become part of West Sussex Youth Cabinet?

You will stand for election in one of 24 areas. The 2 candidates with the most votes in each area are elected to Youth Cabinet (with the exception of Horsham and Crawley where 4 candidates are elected).

What is UK Youth Parliament?

UK Youth Parliament involves 500 young people, aged 11-18 from across the UK, giving young people a voice nationally about issues that affect them.

The UKYP runs national campaigns such as Votes at 16, Knife Crime and others and as an MYP you represent young people locally and nationally on such issues on their behalf.

How do I become part of UK Youth Parliament?

The process: 4 UKYP reps for West Sussex. Stand for election in 1 of 4 areas*. 2 candidates with the most votes get elected as MYP and DMYP.

The responsibility: South East regional meetings are held every 2 months. You will represent approximately 23,000 young people, and hold MYP ‘surgeries’ as often as possible to listen to their views.
