Reading across the Curriculum - Texts to support subjects other than English

Tuesday 25th June 2024 3.45 p.m. - 4.45 p.m.

"Reading across the curriculum supports the knowledge and vocabulary to be learnt in each subject… They [texts] should be accessible and written at an age-appropriate interest level to encourage pupils to learn more about a subject… The texts should build on pupils' prior knowledge and vocabulary from previous reading, thus preparing them to understand increasingly complex texts." DfE Reading Framework 2023

Are you a subject lead for Science, Maths, Geography, History, Sport, RHSE or the Arts? Would you like to know how the Schools Library Service supports your subject by loaning a range of fiction and non-fiction books to inform key areas of the curriculum?

Join the Schools Library Service team and fellow colleagues across West Sussex to discover the formats of texts available to request which can compliment and enhance children's knowledge and vocabulary including:

  • science experiments
  • chronological reports/timelines
  • non-chronological texts
  • Narrative non-fiction
  • Contemporary fiction and folklore set in different countries around the world
  • Fiction set during specific periods of history that are written from non-British perspectives
  • Picture books demonstrating KS1 maths in real-life scenarios
  • Texts to support all aspects of the RHSE curriculum, including growth mindset, transition and personal safety.

There will also be opportunities throughout the webinar to share ideas and ask questions.

To register, please complete the brief form to book your place and we will send you a link 24 hours before the event.
