Thank you for your question.  East Sussex local authorities are currently rolling out separate food waste collections for households from April 2026 (only Lewes had food waste collections prior to this date).  Food waste collections | East Sussex County Council

In West Sussex, paper and card is recycled, and can be placed in residents home recycling bins, along with cartons, plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays, glass bottles and jars, metal cans and tins, foil.

Garden Waste collections are separate and available from all local authorities in West Sussex, and garden waste is composted, and has been for many years.

Food waste collections in West Sussex began in November 2025 in the Mid Sussex area (earlier for a large trial area), and other local authorities in West Sussex are currently rolling out the new service, beginning March 2026.

In East Sussex, paper and card is collected as recycling, not for composting.

Thank you for your comment.  Due to the service changes across the county taking place at different times, the Waste Prevention Team are  prioritising areas where food waste collections are next to be rolled out to residents.  This is a rolling engagement programme and more Worthing area events are already scheduled for Spring and Summer.  We also have many other local groups that we are visiting but as these aren't events open to any member of the public , we aren't able to list them all here.  We have also been in Worthing and Adur areas conducting community outreach in targetted areas directly with residents at the doorstep.

Thank you for your question.  We have had a regular Waste Prevention Information Stand at the Southwick Community Centre, alongside the Community Food Hub, and volunteer Waste Prevention Advisors attend every food hub monthly.  We are hoping to have a presence at Shoreham Market in late Spring / early Summer.

Thank you for your question.  Yes bones and shells from shellfish can be placed in your food caddy as part of the food waste collection service.
