In the summer term of 2022 we agreed to prioritise use of EP time to undertake EY EHCNA assessments. As part of that system EP’s who volunteered used all of their available EP assessment time to undertake EY assessments. To support this an EY EHCNA spreadsheet (North and South) was set up to place assessment in priority order, which EPs could then self-allocate from. In addition on-line examples of outcomes and provision and skeleton reports were written.

As an EPS we are continuing to work with our colleagues in the Early Years Service and SENAT to seek to ensure timely assessments for all children (including EY children) in the coming academic year and to prevent ‘bulges’ of assessments. Therefore there are no definitive plans to run a similar EY EHCNA focus in the 2022 – 2023 academic year. However, it will be valuable to understand what worked well in this system and what we can learn from it.
