Welcome to the SLS Celebration of Reading 2025

West Sussex Schools Library Service are pleased to welcome back our Celebration of Reading for a third year! All events will be live and children will have the opportunity to participate in Q&A sessions with the authors and illustrators.

Our Celebration of Reading events are free to all SLS-subscribing schools and there is no limit to the number of children or classes that can access each event per subscribing school.

The Celebration of Reading events 2025 are also available to non-subscribing schools at a price of £25 per individual event per school (or all five events for £100.) One ticket permits all classes in the same school to attend the selected event.

NB. Submission of this form is a commitment to purchase a ticket for all events selected. Payment will be taken via journal transfer (maintained schools) or by invoice (Multi Academy Trusts.) Please see below for full Terms and Conditions.

Please complete this form to book your school a ticket for each event that you wish to attend. Links to your selected Zoom events will be emailed directly to you closer to the time.

Meet the Author: Lindsay Galvin

Monday 23 June 2.15 - 2.45 p.m.

Sussex-based author, Lindsay Galvin, writes for KS2 readers and is well-known for her historical fiction covering events such as the sinking of the Titanic, Charles Darwin's voyage to the Galapagos Islands, and the Great Fire of London. Lindsay's most recent novel, 'The Elixir', published in June 2025 by Barrington Stoke, is a magical story for reluctant readers featuring a young Isaac Newton.

Lindsay's event is aimed at KS2 readers.


Meet the Author: Joseph Elliott

Thursday 26 June 2.15 - 2.45 p.m.

Joseph Elliott is an author, scriptwriter and actor, best known for playing pirate ‘Cook’ in the BAFTA-winning CBeebies series, 'Swashbuckle', for which he also wrote many of the scripts. Joseph was also a script writer for the CBBC series 'Horrible Histories.' 'Nora and the Map of Mayhem' is the first in Joseph Elliott's new chapter book series for KS2 readers, following the hilarious adventures of siblings, Atticus and Autumn, and their eccentric grandmother, Nora. The second book in the series, 'Nora and the Compass of Chaos' is is due to be released in May 2025.

Joseph's event is aimed at KS2 readers.


Meet the Poet and Author: Coral Rumble

Friday 27 June 2.15 - 2.45 p.m.

Award-winning poet, Coral Rumble, has published five poetry collections for children and contributed to nearly 200 poetry anthologies. Her picture book, 'Mustafa's Jumper' was longlisted for the Oscar's Book Prize and explores the topic of seeking asylum. In 2024, Coral published her first KS2 chapter book 'Jakub's Otter': an empathetic story about a ten-year-old young carer named Jakub who, during a respite holiday, goes on a journey of self-discovery and learns about the otters that live nearby.

Coral's event is aimed at KS1 and KS2 readers.


Meet the Author: Helen Rutter

Monday 30 June 2.15 - 2.45 p.m.

Helen Rutter is an author, playwright, comedian and actor. Her debut novel, 'The Boy who made Everyone Laugh' won the Lollies Award 2023 and was selected for the 2022 Read for Empathy list. Helen has also written stories for KS2 reluctant readers, published by Barrington Stoke. Helen's latest novel 'The Boy with Big Decisions' is a decide-your-own-destiny book allowing the reader to choose how indecisive Fred's story plays out.

Helen's event is aimed at KS2 readers.


Meet the Author and Illustrator: Steve Antony

Thursday 03 July 2.15 - 2.45 p.m.

Steve Antony, is the popular and award-winning author and illustrator of over 29 picture books for young readers. Steve's witty tour around London, 'The Queen's Hat' won the Oscar's First Book Prize in 2015 and his popular story 'Please Mr Panda' was a YouTube hit during the 2020 lockdown with readings uploaded around the world every 2-3 hours. Nine of Steve Antony's books have been nominated for the Carnegie Medal for Illustration (previously known as the Kate Greenaway Award) including his most recent title, 'Rainbowsaurus', a family adventure featuring lots of colourful animals.

Steve's event is aimed at KS1 and KS2 readers.

Copies of books by each author may be purchased via our Book Purchase Scheme. The Book Purchase Scheme provides SLS-subscribing schools with a 25% discount on the cover price of every book purchased and, for an additional fee, extra servicing to be applied including book jackets and AR labels where necessary.   • To enter into an agreement with West Sussex Schools Library Service to participate in the 2025 Celebration of Reading as a whole school/class/group.
  • (Non-subscribing schools) to pay the ticket price of £25.00 per event or £100.00 for all five events. The school understands and accepts that payment for the ticket(s) will be taken by journal transfer (maintained schools) or by invoice (Multi Academy Trusts) after the registration closing date (Thursday 19 June 2025). NB. All 2025 Celebration of Reading events are free to current SLS-subscribing schools.
  • That following registration, payment from non-subscribing schools will be required and no refund will be provided. NB. All 2025 Celebration of Reading events are free to current SLS-subscribing schools.
