Overview

The Department for Education (DfE) has asked all schools to identify a Senior Mental Health Lead (SMHL) to help to implement a whole school or college approach to mental health and wellbeing. Training for SMHLs is available and grants of £1,200 are being provided to eligible state-funded schools and colleges in England to enable access to the training. For more information, please see the DfE website.

As a County Council, we would like to be able to offer regular support, training and networking opportunities to SMHLs, much in the same way that we do to Designated Safeguarding Leads. To enable us to contact SMHLs, we need schools to provide their details via this survey.

NB: Please note that the directory of SMHLs will be maintained via the West Sussex Services for Schools website. Therefore, if you do not already have a West Sussex Services account, then we will use the information supplied to set one up on your behalf so that you are able to receive support updates.

For any questions or more information about SMHLs, please contact Tanya Procter, Joint Commissioner for Health and Wellbeing in Schools, via tanya.procter@westsussex.gov.uk
