Exercise Kirkwall - Feb 2025
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude for your participation in Exercise Kirkwall. This exercise is designed to transition the process of capturing information about displaced persons during emergency incidents from a traditional pen-and-paper method to a more efficient and streamlined digital format. The implementation of this digital process will assist both West Sussex County Council (WSCC) and local District Councils in refining the process of supporting displaced persons during emergencies. This approach will enhance our ability to provide assistance during and after such incidents. While the digital system will be the primary method, a pen-and-paper solution, which has certain limitations, will remain available for resilience purposes, particularly in the event of IT failures or to meet specific individual needs. The recommendations of the Grenfell Tower report emphasizes the following:Local authorities should develop methods for obtaining and recording information on displaced persons and those who are missing, ideally in electronic format, and practice implementing these methods under various circumstances. As part of their emergency planning, local authorities should ensure effective communication with those requiring assistance, using the most appropriate technology and languages that reflect the diversity of the area. This exercise is a key step in confirming elements of that, while processes are already in place to capture critical information, the transition to a digital system will facilitate more efficient, accurate, and effective data collection during significant emergencies. We appreciate the time and effort you are dedicating to assist WSCC, West Sussex Fire and Rescue, and most importantly, the residents and visitors of West Sussex.Scenario:A large unexploded World War II bomb has been uncovered by a low tide in the bay of Weyland (refer to the attached map). As a result, an evacuation of the affected areas, as outlined in the map, has been deemed necessary. If required, evacuees will be directed to a local sports hall. While we recognize that some residents may arrange their own accommodations, it remains crucial to collect as much information as possible to ensure proper support during and after the incident.Doing this exercise, via the form, will help all agencies involved to evaluate the efficiency of incoming details in terms of speed, accessibility and filtering in a real time environment. Your role in assisting is to fill the form out as best as you can, if you want to leave blanks please do - that would happen in a real life scenario and is the reason why no question is mandatory. SEND & Inclusion Strategy 2025-2030
We are currently developing our new SEND & Inclusion Strategy in West Sussex. At this early stage, we invite you to provide feedback on our newly developed Vision (our big plan for the future), Principles (what we will do to deliver the vision) and Priorities (the things we will focus on over the next 5 years). These three aspects will underpin our strategic direction for SEND & Inclusion in the local area, for the next 5 years. So far, we have delivered three face to face workshops across the County, and one online workshop that were held in the Autumn term of 2024. During these workshops, we were pleased to welcome young people and their families and a wide range of colleagues and leaders from across the SEND Local Area Partnership including representatives from health, social care and education, including years settings, schools and colleges. Since the Autumn '24 workshops, we have carefully reviewed your feedback, and with help from Young People at Chichester College and our 'Together for Change Panel', led and chaired by our West Sussex Parent Carer Forum, we have co-produced our Vision and three Principles for the strategy, and revised our original Priorities, for which we now have six of.But now, we need your help again to make sure that we have identified the right things, so that we can continue to improve outcomes for children and young people with SEND, and their families. At the end of the Strategy survey, we will ask a few non-identifiable questions about yourself. This is just so that we can ensure we have a diverse range of feedback, to help shape our new SEND & Inclusion Strategy over the next 5 years. If you would prefer not to answer these, then please do skip past.Accessibility and alternate formatsIf you require any of this information in an alternative format, then please contact us via email at kathryn.kellagher@westsussex.gov.uk or by telephone on 0330 222 8735 and we will do our best to assist you.
