West Sussex School Health Check.

The West Sussex School Health Check is a health and wellbeing survey completed by students in years 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12. The first iteration of the survey took place in Spring 2025 and saw 59 schools and just under 7000 students take part. The Public Health Team at West Sussex County Council is pleased to deliver the next iteration of the survey in Spring 2027 and invites you to express your interest in taking part.

Why should you take part?

  • To better understand the health and wellbeing needs of your students.
  • Supports you to identify areas of improvement and actions to improve your students’ health and wellbeing in line with Ofsted framework.
  • Inform Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) curriculum.
  • Inform wider county programme delivery to improve the health and wellbeing of children and young people in West Sussex.

The School Health Check will take approximately 45 minutes to complete. Participating schools and colleges will receive a confidential school report, as well as a 1:1 support session with the Public Health Team to help interpret findings and identify actions for improvement

"Thank you for doing this project. We really have been wondering how best to collect pupil voice, and this gives such a good overview for us and what we need to do going forwards. This data will really support us with our planning for mental health and wellbeing and what actions are needed for our school".

    We have included a few short additional questions at the end of the survey to help us inform our evaluation of the first iteration of the School Health check and help and improve delivery of the next iteration. These questions are optional, however we would really appreciate your feedback - thankyou.

    The Public Health Team at West Sussex County Council will use this short survey to collect some personal data (e.g. name, email address), the processing of which is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the controller.  The data collected will be processed in accordance with the Data Protection Act (2018) and the General Data Protection Regulations (UK GDPR), and any subsequent relevant legislation.  Your personal data will be help securely in electronic format for a period of 12 months before being destroyed.
