As part of our mission to help cut the confusion of recycling we’re running a survey to gather information on what you would like to know and we’d love you to take part. Last year we asked similar questions and got great feedback from residents, which has helped to shape our work over the last 12 months. Whether you took part in either of our last surveys or not, we’d love to hear from you this year! The survey will run from 1st - 30th June 2026.

A big thank you to everyone across West Sussex who took part in our Recycling Knowledge Survey in June, and a very warm welcome to those of you who signed up to this newsletter through the survey.
We received more than 6,600 responses, giving us valuable insight into what you already know about recycling and the areas where you would like more information.
We use your feedback to help make sure our newsletters, communications, campaigns and social media posts are useful, relevant and can support you to reduce waste and recycle even more at home.
For example, this year we included questions and answers about the new food waste recycling collections in our communications. These collections are already available in many areas and will soon be introduced in others, you can find out more about this in the article below.
This year, many of you told us that you would like to know more about what happens to your recycling after it has been collected. Our handy video series explains how different materials are sorted and recycled once they leave your home.
You also asked for more information about what can go into each bin, so we will be sharing more practical guidance on this in future communications with you, including newsletters and social media posts. Why not follow us on WSRecycles to find out more.
It was fantastic to see that 90% of respondents felt positive about the new food waste collection service. We know that a new collection can be a big change, so this is a really encouraging result. A big thank you to all of you already recycling your food waste at home.
We also saw a significant increase in the number of people who know that empty squeezy toothpaste tubes, empty aerosol cans, and plastic pots, tubs and trays can all be recycled at home. If you're unsure of what you can recycle at home, check out our handy A-Z guide.
