Public Health Skills Audit 2025 – Early Help Staff

Workforce Skills Audit

As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting you in your role, we are asking all staff to complete this Skills Audit. The audit helps us understand your competence and confidence in key areas relating to Public Health.

Public Health is about improving the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities. It focuses on preventing illness, reducing health inequalities, and promoting healthier lifestyles through education, support, and services.

In 2020, Public Health and Early Help signed a Collaborative Working Agreement (CWA), which sets out shared activities, approaches, and expectations. This agreement is reviewed regularly and supported by Public Health funding. The Skills Audit is a key part of ensuring we have the right knowledge and skills to deliver on these commitments.

This survey is important

Your views are important, as they inform the training programme and the way it is delivered. We recognise that learning and development does not only take place during face-to-face training but can be gained in a variety of ways including work experience, mentoring and discussions with colleagues.

This survey is mandatory for all staff to complete. The results will help us to ascertain the needs of our workforce and how effective our training programme and pathways are. Thank you for taking the time to complete the survey.

Completing the Questionnaire:

When completing the questionnaire, please be aware that we appreciate:

  • Everyone is different.
  • Knowledge and skills can be gained through training, experience or a combination of both.
  • Some skills are useful for several people to have, whereas other skills are only required by a few.
  • Your perception of your competence may change over time.

Results will be anonymised. However, if you would like to have a PDF of your individual results you can put your e-mail address at the end of the survey and they will be sent to you. These could be used at your appraisal to consider areas that you are competent in, as well as identifying areas for future development.

The survey will be open from 8 to 31 December. Please ensure you complete it within this timeframe.

*The questions have been developed using - Public Health Skills and Knowledge Framework 2016.
