Home education

Home education is on the rise, both nationally and here in West Sussex. We respect every family's right to choose to educate their children at home, using a variety of methods that may or may not resemble traditional schooling.

Gathering your opinions

At West Sussex we want to ensure that your voice is heard, so we can better understand how to support you. We also encourage EHE families to share their experiences and learn from one another. To facilitate this, we’ve created a brief survey for both parents and young people. We invite you to complete it and encourage your children to do the same.

What will we do with your answers

The feedback you provide will help us share best practices among families who have chosen home education, and will be personally reviewed by the manager of WSCC EHE department and the team. All personal information will remain strictly confidential, and your responses will be anonymous unless you choose to share your contact details.

West Sussex Home Ed Voices

In addition to the surveys below, we are looking to create an online forum for young people who are home educated to be part of a panel to attend and express their opinions and experiences on being home educated. If your child would like to be a part of this, then please express this in the survey or email ehe@westsussex.gov.uk to express an interest.

Alternative formats and accessibility

If you require any of this information in an alternative format, then please contact us via email at ehe@westsussex.gov.uk or by telephone on 0330 222 3300 and we will do our best to assist you. If you are deaf or hard of hearing and have a BT Relay UK app (opens in new window) installed on your PC, laptop or smartphone, you can contact us on 1800 0330 222 3300.
