Introduction

The Government's Get Britain Working (opens in new window) white paper outlines reforms to employment, health, and skills support to reduce economic inactivity and achieve an 80% long-term employment rate long-term.

As part of this ambition, the Government intends that all regions develop Local Get Britain Working Plans (opens in new window), taking a whole-system approach uniting local authorities, the NHS, Jobcentre Plus, employers, and other stakeholders through a coordinated strategy to facilitate local employment and job retention.

In Sussex, the 3 local authorities - West Sussex, East Sussex, and Brighton and Hove - are required to formulate comprehensive plans that evaluate the local job market, identify contributing issues, and propose strategies and actions. Although each area will have its individual plan, they will collaborate to establish overarching priorities for Sussex to enhance employment, address key challenges and utilise resources efficiently.

We are engaging with employers and stakeholders in the county to help set immediate objectives and actions for the next 1-2 years and develop a longer-term strategic plan.

The Government require local authorities to submit Local Get Britain Working Plans for consideration by end of June. Although this is an extremely tight deadline, it is important that our partners, stakeholders and local employers help shape the plan. Your insight is invaluable to understand what has worked well, build on what's in place and consider new and innovative ways to address employment challenges, tailoring solutions to local needs. We invite you to take part:

Join us in shaping the future of employment in Sussex by completing the stakeholder survey below. Deadline for completion of the survey is: Friday 30 May 2025.
