Programme Overview

West Sussex County Council (WSCC) has made funding available to coordinate free activities during the half term holiday in February 2022. It is for children eligible for pupil premium funding and activities should link to the curriculum.

What providers need to consider:

The funding from WSCC is to give disadvantaged children the opportunity to engage with learning during the school holidays in response to the loss of classroom education during 2020 and 2021. It is not directly linked to the National Tutoring Programme or existing national Catch-Up Learning Programmes but offers an opportunity to complement this locally during the holidays.

February Half Term will be used as a pilot to inform how the council can add value to wider programmes and children that have fallen behind in their learning during the COVID Pandemic.

Providers are invited to submit Expressions of Interest to support and be part of the programme during February Half Term. Bids should be written to meet the scope and criteria listed below:

Scope

  • 4 hour daily sessions between 21 – 25 February 2022
  • Food and lunch provision is not required
  • Face to face provision will be given priority
  • Remote or online offer will be considered
  • For children that get Pupil Premium funding through their school
  • Parents will be responsible for booking children
  • Ofsted Registered and Qualified Teacher Status / Registered National Tutors is desirable

Criteria

  1. Variety and range of opportunities that bring learning and curriculum to life in new ways
  1. Enriching activities showing clear links to age-appropriate subjects and set curriculum
  2. Links to the core subjects Writing; Maths; Reading and are incorporated into activities
  3. Clear methods to define learning goals for children and demonstrate progress within the duration of the programme
  4. Inclusive programme that provides for children of all abilities including those with SEND

Providers will be asked to complete a self-assessment as a record of their Policies and Procedures to keep children safe.

The council is interested in proposals from providers who can deliver within one or more areas in the county, and from providers who would be interested in 'scaling up' their current provision.

The deadline for EOI submissions is midnight 17th January 2022.

The grant allocation process

Due to the short timescales and to work effectively, proposals must be submitted using the online Expression of Interest. This will enable us to award grants in an efficient and transparent manner according to agreed funding specifications. All providers are required to complete even if they have received HAF Funding.

The EOI requests:

  • A clear proposal of your activity and how you will meet the scope and criteria
  • Self-Assessment on Policies and Procedures
  • Funding Template (downloadable on the right)
  • Example activity plans

We recommend that you have all the necessary documentation ready to attach before you start completing the online EOI form.

Equality, diversity, and inclusion

Providers will be asked to consider and identify how they propose to meet the needs of diverse groups and inclusivity for children with additional needs or disabilities.
