If the proposals went ahead, what age range of children and young people would be accessing the Satellite provision at the Lyndhurst site, what would their needs be and what curriculum would be offered?
If the proposals were implemented, then The Lyndhurst site would operate as a satellite site for Palatine Primary school and would be accessed by pupils aged 5-11 years old with moderate or severe learning difficulties.
The satellite site would provide these learners with a bespoke, holistic curriculum that develops learners' skills in the following areas:
A pupil would be predominantly based at one site according to peer group and type of needs.
If the proposals went ahead, how would the two sites be linked?
The Lyndhurst site is located just over 3 miles from the main Palatine Primary site, with an approximate driving time of 9 minutes, depending on the time of day.
As Lyndhurst is a proposed satellite site, school leadership would remain the same as the main school site. The schools values, leadership, planning and ethos would remain the same. The school's staffing team would expand and there would be a dedicated number of staff based at the Lyndhurst site that can respond to everyday aspects of running the site. Senior leaders will be based across both sites.
If the proposals were to be implemented, Lyndhurst would be purposely refurbished to accommodate learners with minimal transition required between the two sites. School plays and assemblies would remain separate across the sites. This is no different to what currently happens as space and needs prevent all children from being together at the same time.
What specialist facilities would there be at The Lyndhurst site should these proposals be implemented and would my child be able to access their therapy provision there?
Should the proposals go ahead, learners based at the Lyndhurst site would be able to access most of their therapy on the Lyndhurst site. The Lyndhurst site would have the following in addition to classroom spaces:
Hydrotherapy and regulation swimming would be accessed on the main school site. Curriculum swimming would be accessed at Littlehampton Wave. This would be timetabled into a learner’s day and transport arranged by the school.
Learners would have access to Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy and Nursing/Care under the same team as the main school site. The school would make arrangements for access to therapies at the main school site or the Lyndhurst site where appropriate.
Hoist, tracking and hygiene facilities would be installed at the Lyndhurst site where necessary to ensure that all learners would have access to the appropriate education and therapy spaces that they need. Hoist and hygiene facilities would remain in place at the main school site.
Should the proposals be implemented, what outdoor space would there be at The Lyndhurst site and how would it be used?
The Lyndhurst site would have an extensive outdoor space including an Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) playground, a courtyard, a main playground, a forest school area and an area of astro turf. Outdoor areas would be accessible for all pupils. Space would be used for regulation, learning and recreation. The forest school area and the astro turf will be used to support the sensory and physical curriculum.
How would places at the satellite site be allocated, should the proposals go ahead?
Should the proposals go ahead, consultations for a place at Palatine Primary would continue to go through the West Sussex admissions process. Staff at the school would decide if a placement was to be offered and which site students should be based on, to ensure they are on the site most suitable to meet their needs.
Would my child/young person receive transport to The Lyndhurst site, should the proposals go ahead?
The Lyndhurst site would be a recognised satellite site for Palatine Primary school. Should your child be eligible for transport to their school placement, and they are attending the Lyndhurst site this would be their drop off and pick up point.
Should the proposals go ahead, would there be an increase in traffic at The Lyndhurst site during school drop off and pick up times?
There is currently a school based at this school which, until recently, had 236 pupils. The proposed plans would support 75 places so there would be less pupils arriving at the Lyndhurst site than do currently. Should the proposals be implemented then there may also be a reduction in traffic at the Palatine site.
WSCC would endeavour to minimise any potential impact on the local community in relation any potential increase in traffic.
